Well, typing this out finally makes it real — we’re moving from DC to… *drumroll* Charlottesville! And really soon! This all happened super quickly, but at the end of the month (aka in several days from now !?!), Will and I are packing up Louie and Lentil, our 600 square foot apartment, and endless wonderful DC memories. I’ve been meaning to announce this for weeks, but between back to back weddings and packing up our life, somehow it’s already here! But we are SO EXCITED, and can’t wait to bring y’all along for the ride.
In case you’re new, Will and I are both from Charlottesville and our families/some of our closest friends live there, so we knew we would eventually end up there to put down some real roots. We went back and forth on the perfect time to take the plunge, but if the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that we know we want to be close to family and and also have the freedom to be outdoors. Oh, and perhaps have more than a shoebox to share when we’re both locked up working from home, ya know?
Of course it is incredibly bittersweet to be leaving the beautiful life we’ve built in DC. That part is rough. Our best friends, tiny (yet very cozy) apartment, favorite neighborhood spots, Will’s office, my District Pilates, the lovely blogger community, and the city as a whole will be missed every day. But we are thrilled to start this new adventure together and continue building a life and a family together in our beloved hometown! We’ve never lived in anything bigger than a one bedroom apartment, so the idea of owning a HOME with a YARD (and additional bathrooms ๐ ) is something super exciting for us. Not to mention doing Sunday dinners with family, being able to see our nephews in between growth spurts, giving up the days of schedule tetris with our people on every visit home, and did I mention not throwing away thousands in rent?!
Speaking of which, this may be the most underrated part: we’re moving in with our parents while we house hunt! The thought of saving on rent and putting that towards a down payment on our future home has legitimately been the driving force behind getting out at the end of September and not procrastinating any longer. Since we’ve got Will’s parents, my mom and stepdad, my dad, my sister and brother-in-law (and more) all in Cville, we’re planning on bouncing around between houses before anyone can get sick of us ๐ I’m sure it’ll get old at some point, but after going so long without seeing our families during lockdown, the idea of not being able to escape them actually doesn’t sound too bad lol.
As for our jobs, not too much will change there. Luckily Will is able to work remotely, and I can obviously blog from anywhere. The one thing I can’t do from afar is teach Pilates (which I’m devastated about), but I’m staying on to help DP behind the scenes and will try to get back on the schedule whenever we come back to visit. I hope to find a new studio where I can teach in Charlottesville, so stay tuned for that!
We’ll still be spending time in DC often (in fact we already have to come back up next weekend haha), so y’all aren’t getting rid of me quite yet! I’ll be coming up frequently for friends, blog meetings and events, and frankly, because I’m just going to miss it. So my content around here will still have plenty of local recs and district favs, don’t you worry ๐ฅฐ
If you started following me as a DC blogger, I hope you’ll follow along for my adventures in this new chapter! Thank you to everyone for being here, whether you just joined or you’ve been hanging with me since I started in Charleston *eight* years ago — I am so happy to have you with me for these milestones. Cheers to taking on a new city, see you there!
